1. Eye Infections Appear Linked to Avastin Injections. At least a dozen Miami-area patients developed serious eye infections after receiving ocular injections of bevacizumab (Avastin) for “wet” macular degeneration.

2. DVT Risk Starts Early, Stays Long After Stroke. The risk for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) among patients immobilized by a stroke hits hardest soon after the event, but lingers on for at least a month.

3. Transient Afib Powerful Predictor of Stroke. Transient atrial fibrillation, which typically manifests in the hospital following treatment for acute myocardial infarction but is gone by the time the patient is discharged, might be a harbinger of future stroke.

Interim Independent Hospital Pricing Authority Underway
