The war recovery? (David S. Broder, October 31, 2010, Washington Post)
Here is where Obama is likely to prevail. With strong Republican support in Congress for challenging Iran’s ambition to become a nuclear power, he can spend much of 2011 and 2012 orchestrating a showdown with the mullahs. This will help him politically because the opposition party will be urging him on. And as tensions rise and we accelerate preparations for war, the economy will improve.
I am not suggesting, of course, that the president incite a war to get reelected. But the nation will rally around Obama because Iran is the greatest threat to the world in the young century.
Does the Left even know what it is portraying him as when it says he needs “scapegoats” and an external enemy to war against in order to distract people from domestic affairs?

In Quality Measures and the Individual Physician, Danielle Ofri, MD, PhD questions the usefulness of feedback report cards for individual providers. She states, “Only 33% of my patients with diabetes have glycated hemoglobin levels that are at goal. Only 44% have cholesterol levels at goal. A measly 26% have blood pressure at goal. All my grades are well below my institution’s targets.”

It’s a bit pedantic, but let me join James Fallows in noting that the idea that the US government should deem Julian Assange guilty of “treason” necessarily falters on the fact that Assange is not an American. If he’s a traitor to any country, it would have to be Australia.
Of course that’s neither here nor there as to the core issues, but it’s a window in the carelessly and slipshod thinking that many of Assange’s critics are engaged in.
