Warrnambool to Victor Harbor — Victor Harbor, South Australia, Australia

Victor Harbor, South Australia, Australia

Dec 27

Wake up early and hit the road again. I spent about twelve hours travelling along the coast, stopping in each town. But again, it’s a pretty interesting drive, except for one long straight section. I stop in Portland, Port Macdonald, Mount Gambier (which has an awesome crater lake), Beachport (which has an great secluded off road section I took the Ford Laser down), Robe, Kingston, Coorong National Park (a little more off-roading), Meningie. Then up and around to Victor Harbor, arriving again at sunset. Nice beachtown, but not a lot of nightlife. A couple of locals described it at God’s waiting room. I don’t mind, because I could use some extra sleep after the long drive.

nieuwjaar | new year — Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand

The new year already started a few hours ago, so I want to wish everybody a HAPPY 2010!

New Years eve was really quiet here. Till midnight many people go to a restaurant or a pub. After counting down there was only for a couple of minutes fireworks from the Skytower. And thereafter many people went out on the street. Queen Street, one of the major shopping areas, was closed down especially for this.

Yesterday night it did not become very late, so this morning was pretty on time again. Because I did not have much clean clothes left, it was a good moment to do some laundry. Of course nothing else then put everything in the washer, get it out and put it in the dryer. But that was my first activity this new year!

The skytower was the next target for today. After completing all forms I had to do an alcohol test. Fortunately I did not drink and could go on :-) Thereafter I was dressed up in a nice orange overall, got a harness and a short instructions followed. Totally ready for this we took the elevator and the skywalk of 120 metres around the tower could start. Was quite nice!

This is a test… — Cleveland, Ohio, United States

Cleveland, Ohio, United States

Cat here:

Because they don’t seem to have a way that two people can write on the same blog, Patrick and I are gonna hafta share. We both kind of suck at that. Actually I’m surprised we don’t have little yellow lines spray painted all over the house: “that’s my spot on the sofa” “you are using my bowl” “that is my dufflebag” , etc.

Anyway.

India, then Nepal. Pat’s going to stay in India for a while longer, provided neither of us die from Delhi Belly, Maoists, muggers, pollution, terrorists, or dysentery. Or any of the other six thousand nine hundred and two weird diseases you can apparently catch over there that the guidebooks are very helpfully warning us all about.

I was talking to Steve today, who plans to spend his next vacation lying on satin cushions in Venice, eating bon-bons.

Mine will be spent at least partially trying to find a hostel with the fewest amount of rats, trying to prevent wild monkeys from stealing my glasses, and trying to keep down whatever it was that the yak-herder offered me to eat. And dodging the yeti. Ok, it probably won’t be quite that extreme, but I’m sure the first thing I will likely do when I get back to the states will involve cushions and chocolate.

Oh, and if I do see the Dalai Lama, I will certainly tell him that all forty of you who asked me to tell him that you said hello, that you said hello.
