On Way To Darwin, Australia
One week on board! Well it feels like we’re finally getting the hang of this cruising thing. Eat and don’t do much else during the day, then stay up sipping cocktails – we can handle this! In his defense Tony does go to the gym every day – to watch the pretty girls exercise and then goes to the bar – he says all that effort makes him thirsty.
Clear blue skies and 32º – or as Tony says ‘Scorchio’. Tony had an early breakfast as he has another Photoshop class in fact two today at 9am and 4pm, although the clocks go back another 30 minutes at noon today, the crew have asked us not to ask why as it’s too complicated to explain, but maybe that makes his second class at 3.30pm?
Debbie has a lie in and a more leisurely breakfast before Tony returns at lunchtime full of information and desperate to explain how to use Photoshop – great! After lots of nodding and agreeing by Debbie, he’s reminded that we have to be ready to meet the Captain at 10.45am. Apparently they don’t let passengers on the Bridge any more for security reasons, but Tony managed to talk the Concierge into having a word with the Captain and here we are.
First impressions – very high tech, for obvious reasons we were not able to take a camera with us, but there were loads of screens, maps, lights and charts. It looked like a flight cockpit x4. Tony of course immediately became immersed in talking technical bollocks ballast and electrical speak to the officers. Debbie enjoyed the view and decided the only reason they don’t let people on the Bridge is so that they can keep the best view to themselves – this was soon confirmed with our first sighting of a pod of dolphins leaping across the bow.
We stayed almost an hour, before having lunch in the pool bar, following which Deb sat out on the deck while Tony went to do some prep for his afternoon Photoshop course – at this rate he will be Teachers Pet.
On getting back to the room we had a message from another cabin. A chap – Casey from the USA – we had met during the Captains introductions on Monday has invited us to dinner with his wife. We have already booked Toscana – the marvelous onboard Italian restaurant for tonight and tickets are like gold dust, so we have agreed to dine with them in the Great Dining Room tomorrow.
We had another great meal in Toscanas with a couple from Manchester, then met up with Victoria & Ian in Martinis for a cocktail before bed. Tomorrow we arrive in Oz.
