Happy News in Tort Reform

Malpractice

There’s good news on the tort reform front. No, Republicans didn’t decide to constructively contribute to the healthcare reform discussion and pledge votes to a bill that included tort reform provisions. But medical malpractice insurance premiums have eased for the fourth straight year. Tort reform discussions are also shifting in a direction that can improve the doctor-patient relationship and increase the quality of patient care. Can this be a win-win for doctors and patients?

First, the AMA reports 94% of malpractice premiums leveled off (58%) or declined (36%) in 2009. While they are still nowhere near pre-2000 levels, it’s progress. To give you an idea, Florida has the highest malpractice premiums in the nation, $57,859 for internists, $191,422 for general surgeons and $201,808 for ob-gyns. Take-home lesson: don’t plan on having your baby in Florida. There’s still significant progress to be made, and hopefully it won’t be short-lived. Even though lawsuit frequency is down by 30% in some areas, jury awards continue to rise.

4 Steps to be Healthier

Filed under: Health Care — Nancy @ 2:32 am -0800

Be HealthierYou can learn how to improve your health in only 4 steps and this article will show you how. Each step is a gold nugget you can use to have a healthy life.

Step 1: Nutritional Supplements

In my opinion, it is very necessary and very beneficial, especially when combined with healthy eating habits. It is very difficult to obtain all the nutrients your body needs through food alone, but combining proper nutrition with nutritional supplements is very powerful.

That said, the supplement that everyone should take is a good source of multivitamins and minerals. Think of it as extra insurance, eating well is crucial, but now that you are also taking dietary supplements, you can be sure you are getting the nutrients your body needs.

Step 2: Nutrition

Good nutrition is essential. You are what you eat … remember that.

Make a conscious effort to gradually improve your eating habits, eat more good foods (nuts, fruits, peanut butter, olive oil, vegetables, poultry, grains, etc.). And less of bad foods (fried foods, saturated fats, corn syrup, fructose, hydrogenated oils, etc.). Read the label of what you eat will tell you much.

You may think you do not have the necessary willpower, but you’d be surprised what happens when you start to gradually improve your eating habits.

Step 3: Exercise

Exercise is the missing piece in the puzzle when it comes to better health. There are many benefits of exercising, including stronger bones and improved libido is very easy to start.

Your goal should be to exercise 3-5 times a week with a combination of cardio and strength training (but no more than 1 hour per training session).

Several studies have shown that two kilos of muscle in your body burn as many calories as if he’d run a mile.

Muscles burn calories!

Step 4: Management of stress and sleep

Stress management and getting a good day of sleep each night I take the road to good health.

To help cope with stress is advisable to perform deep breathing exercises in the morning (yes, you probably already knew, but what has already been tried?).

Getting enough sleep each night is equally important when you consider that your body uses this time to repair itself. You should try to sleep 6 to 8 hours each night.

Two tips you can implement is to do light exercise and eat three hours before bedtime.

SkinBefore purchasing any body soap you need to be aware of your skin type.
