What does SPF mean?

Filed under: Plastic Surgery and Hair & Beauty — Tags: — Nancy @ 3:36 am -0700

SPF refers to Sun Protection Factor and applies only to UVB radiation. It is a multiple of how much time you can stay in the sun without burning your skin. For example, if you burn without any sunscreen in 10 minutes, a sunscreen with an SPF 15 would allow you to stay in the sun for 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) without burning. (SPF15 x 10 minutes = 150 minutes)

SPF describes the increased allowable time of sun exposure before your particular skin type burns. An SPF value is assigned by manufacturers of sun protecting cosmetics for items such as sunscreens, creams, lipsticks, cosmetic milks, lotions, etc. For example, SPF4 means that you can expose yourself to the sun four times longer without burning.

What can I do to Get Rid of under-eye dark circle?

Filed under: Plastic Surgery and Hair & Beauty — Tags: — Nancy @ 11:00 am -0800

Firstly, you shall get plenty of sleep nightly. It is unclear why inadequate sleep results in dark circles under the eyes, but we have often seen it happen either to ourselves or someone we know. Actually, lack of sleep tends to cause the skin to become paler and it reduces circultion.

Secondly, you shall treat your skin while you sleep. There are overnight facial masques available that may help reduce the appearance of puffiness or discoloration, but you can also make your own. Just before you go to bed, take a washcloth and wet it just a bit with cold water. Then squeeze out any excess water and place it over your eyes as you sleep.

Thirdly, you shall apply cool tea bags, an ice cube wrapped in soft cloth, or cucumber slices to your eyes daily. The tannin in tea bags has been shown to reduce swelling and discoloration, and cucumber slices have long been used to reduce puffiness and refresh the appearance of skin around the eyes. Lie down, preferably in the morning, and leave fresh cucumber slices or cool, damp caffeinated tea bags (you can refrigerate them overnight so they’ll be ready) over your eyes for about 10-15 minutes. Keep your eyes closed.

Fourthly, you shall try to relax the space. You can do this by wetting a cotton swab and then freezing it for a little while. Then you should gently wipe under your eyes in the areas where the circles are occurring. When wiping, close your eyes and try not to flinch.

Fifthly, you shall apply an eye cream containing vitamin K and retinol. Dark circles may be caused by a deficiency of vitamin K. Regardless of the cause, however, recent research has shown that skin creams containing these two ingredients reduce puffiness and discoloration significantly in many patients. Long-term daily use seems to have the greatest effect.

Sixthly, you shall eat a healthy, balanced diet, take vitamins, and drink plenty of water. A whole host of cosmetic problems can be attributed to vitamin deficiencies. Dark circles and puffiness are often attributed to lack of vitamin K or inadequate antioxidants. Also, a deficiency in B12 (usually anemia-related) can result in dark circles. Be sure to get plenty of fruits and vegetables—especially cabbage, spinach, and other leafy green vegetables—and take a daily vitamin supplement if necessary. Get adequate fluids to improve circulation.

Seventhly, you shall reduce salt intake. Excess salt causes the body to retain water in unusual places, and this can result in puffiness under the eyes. Too much salt can also impair your circulation, and cause the blood vessels under the skin to appear bluer.

Eightly, you shall quit smoking. Smoking causes vascular (blood vessel) problems that can not only threaten your life, but also make your blood vessels appear more prominent and bluer beneath the skin.

Ninthly, you may cover the problem up with cosmetics. If all else fails, use a yellow or peach-toned concealer which will camouflage the problem under your eyes. The yellow/peach undertones in the makeup will help cancel out the purple, blue, and brownish colors of your undereye circles. Pink-toned concealers can actually make your circles more noticeable. After applying, set the concealer with a light dusting of translucent powder.

1. Massage method: Please use your palm to massage the scars, three times a day, every 5-10 minutes. This method is best for the wound which just scab off.

2. Ginger friction method: Please use ginger to gently graze at the scars so as to inhibit the growth of granulation tissue.

3. Vitamin E smear method: Vitamin E can penetrate into the internal skin and play its role in emollients and at the same time, vitamin E can maintain skin elasticity. However, people are not very familiar with the effectiveness of vitamin E on eliminating the scar. To tear the Vitamin E capsules and daub its liquid on the scar, gently massage the scars for 5-10 minutes, twice a day. On the regular basis, it would have a better effect.

4. Vitamin C smear method: vitamin C has the beauty efficacy, to daub vitamin C on the dark skin to white scar up, so that the scar can be consistent with the surrounding healthy skin color.

5. Lavender essential oil smear method: The beauty effectiveness of lavender is always fantastic, and lavender essential oil effect on scar has been widely recognized. But the lavender essential oil has no obvious effect on new scar or over 8 years old, which is better for one to two-year scars. Additionally, please take care to use essential oil; please not touch the skin without scars when using the lavender essential oil.
